You’ve received the WBL introductory letter from your Attachment Coordinator. What next?

  •  Create your CV – see the CV with comments for guidance on what content to include. 

o   Here are the highlights – Your contact details minus your house address, Academic qualifications, availability period for WBL, relevant work experience, extracurricular activities, computer skills, relevant language skills at advanced proficiency level. Omit the referees to protect their data. You can share the referee details with organizations that explicitly request for the information at application or at the interview stage.

  • Actively search for opportunities – find some platforms that you can use below

§  Google Alertscreate an alert for the role that you’re interested in. i.e. Data analyst Intern, Finance Intern etc. and receive notifications once those roles are posted by any company.

§  Reliefweb |https://reliefweb.int/jobs - Apply filters based on the job type and country of interest among others.

Verify the roles from the platforms by visiting the website of the organizations to check for application details. Be wary of roles with expired application dates.

§  Career pages of organizations you’re interested in working with.

§  Look out for leads from the Careers Office through the job alerts email or online portal, careers.strathmore.edu

  • Leverage your networks - Talk to your lecturers, mentors, siblings, friends and parents to advise if they hear or have access to opportunities aligned with the internship requirements and make your application.
  • Reach out. Use the contact us page on the website of companies of interest and reach out to find out how to apply for an internship or industrial attachment role.

o   Speaking points – introduce yourself, state the reasons for your call and request for direction on where to send your application

For instance: Hello, my name is Kevin Juma from Strathmore University currently studying Bachelor of Commerce and interested in interning in your organization from January to March next year. Who should I reach out to or where should I send my application for consideration.

  •  Apply-  send out numerous applications to increase your chances of securing a WBL opportunity.
